Generational Differences

Please remember that we will be discussing DiscipleMaker material during our Guardians meeting this Sunday.  Men, please use this week to speak with your families in order to gain their input for this discussion.

Judges 2:6-3:6 is a flashback to the days when Joshua was alive.  This text is really a second introduction to the book of Judges.  The first introduction was 1:1-2:5, which begins after Joshua died.  This second introduction begins prior to the death of Joshua.

Why do you think God chose to give two introductions to the book of Judges?  As you compare and contrast the two introductions, can you identify the purpose and importance of each?

Compare Joshua 24:28-31 with Judges 2:6-10a.  Why do you suppose this information is repeated here in Judges?

The pivotal verse in our sermon text for this week is Judges 2:10b: “And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that He had done for Israel.”  From this point on, our text explains the disobedient nature of Israel.

Who are the false God’s Baal and Ashtaroth?  What do you know about them?
