| As we complete the section of the Apostles’ Creed that is dedicated to the person and work of Jesus, we are told that there will come a day when Jesus will leave His position from sitting at the right hand of God the Father and will ‘come to judge the living and the dead.”
This will be the focus of our sermon this coming Lord’s Day. We’re going to use Revelation 20:11-15 as the primary text for discerning what it means for Jesus to “judge the living and the dead.”
Who are “the dead” described in the beginning of verse 12? Are these believers who had died? Non-believers who had died? Or a combination of all people, believes and non-believers, who has died?
Verse 12 describes “books” (plural) and “another book” (singular). The other book is given the title “the Book of Life.” How do the “books” function differently than the Book of Life?
According to verse 15, on what basis is a person admitted either to heaven or the lake of fire?
Who, specifically, is the doing the judging?
What is the difference between the “first death” and “second death” (v 14). |
