Proverbs 16:31

We will be returning to our sermon series through the book of Proverbs. The sermon text for this coming Lord’s Day is Proverbs 16:31.

Gray hair is a crown of glory;
it is gained in a righteous life.

Here are some questions to assist you in preparing.

1. In what ways does the world honor the elderly? In what ways does the world dishonor the elderly?

2. Consider Leviticus 19:32. In what ways does the church honor the elderly? How does the church’s attitude toward the elderly distinguish us from the world around us? Is the church in America really living out this distinction? See also 1 Timothy 5:1-2.

3. Does Proverbs 16:31 teach that every elderly person is crowned with glory? Why or why not?

4. What is the biblical description of a righteous older man? (Titus 2:2) Or of a righteous older woman? (Titus 2:3-5)

5. In what ways does the command to honor our father and mother apply to the elderly? Is there an age restriction upon that command? In other words, does this command apply to adult children who are grown and out of their parents’ homes?
