This coming Lord’s Day we’ll resume our sermon series on the Apostles’ Creed by considering the statement, “The third day He rose again from the dead…” This is nearly a verbatim record of 1 Corinthians 15:4, which is our text for this sermon.
In 1 Corinthians 15:4, Paul says that the resurrection of Jesus was done “in accordance with the Scriptures.” The Scriptures Paul was referring to is what we call the Old Testament. What portions of the Old Testament do you suppose Paul was referring to? Where in the Old Testament do we learn that Jesus would be raised from the dead on the third day?
The resurrection of Jesus gives us crucial insights about God, about Jesus, and about ourselves. Consider what we learn about God, Jesus, and ourselves by the resurrection. Consider verses such as Psalm 16:10; Romans 1:4; 4:24; Acts 2:24; 13:30; 17:31; 1 Corinthians 15:17-18; Ephesians 1:18-20; 1 Peter 1:21; etc. |
